The crane code of practice introduced by the Queensland Division of Workplace Health & Safety in 2006, stipulates that the owners of cranes are required to carry out a major inspection every 10 years. All mechanical components from hydraulics, pumps, motors, booms, cylinders, sheaves, braking and steering systems need to be fully inspected, tested and where required, repaired and reassembled in compliance with crane manufacturer’s instructions. The rigorous guidelines and highly technical nature of these inspections, has limited the number of business’ able to offer the service.
